About Scottsdale
Renowned for it’s beautiful scenery of the Sonoran Desert, and favorable climate, Scottsdale is annually rated as one of the most desirable communities to live, work and visit.
Scottsdale has a vibrant history of culture and art, as well as home to significant events during World War II. During the great depression artists and architects flocked to Scottsdale, which gives it the artistic culture that still thrives today. In 1942 Thunderbird Airfield was opened, where 5500 pilots received flight training before the end of the war. Scottsdale was also the site of a German Prisoner of war camp.
Upon the creation of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce in 1947 the leaders made a special effort to promote the identity of Scottsdale as a link to the Old West, a reflection of the original settlers, and as a draw for tourism.
Scottsdale is recognized as an upscale tourist, and shopping destination. Known for it’s Gallery district, home to some of the countries best art museums and ranked as a premier golf and resort destination. The FBR open (formerly the Phoenix Open) has set records for the most attended golf tournament on the planet. Scottsdale maintains it’s small town feel and Western American style. Meanwhile the city has adopted “The West’s most Western Town” as their slogan.
