About Tempe
Well known for hosting the annual Fiesta Bowl, Iron Man Arizona, Super bowl XXX, and home to Arizona State University. Tempe was named after the Vale of Tempe in Greece. Early settlers thought the town resembled the area near Mount Olympus because of the near by Salt River and Hayden Butte.
Tempe is a hot spot for the Phoenix metropolitan area as it hosts one of the largest New Year Eve’s parties (Insight Fiesta Bowl Block party). Home to Gammage Auditorium, and Tempe Center for the Arts, which both have several great performances each year. Tempe is also a great place to catch a ball game as it is host to the spring training team Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Tempe is an important economic hub to the Phoenix area, as it is home to two Fortune 500 companies, US Airways and Insight Enterprises, as well as several other large companies are headquartered in Tempe.
Residents and visitors enjoy several year round activities held at Tempe Town Lake and park. Some of the most popular activities include rowing, boating, fishing, picnics, shopping as well as many main events are held there.
